I think I like this idea for now. Blog Away, I say!
Maybe message boards for everyone else. I dunno how far we want to go with this yet.
Heh... Anyhoo, this is the first Blog for the TWIS website. Today's show was much fun and excitement. Agreed??? I'm sorry that we aren't covering the chemical/biological weaponry issues that are on everyone's minds these days. It is just getting to be too much. If you want to hear about anthrax and other threats just keep your favorite major network on the tube. They'll get to it if they aren't
still
talking about it.
On the subject of
handedness and memory, I thought an interesting point was raised by one of our callers. Have left-handed people historically had better memory for events than right-handed people. Recent research at the University of Toledo suggests that left-handed people and those people related to southpaws might actually have larger corpus callosums (the bundle of nerve fibers that connects the two halves of the brain) than right-handers with no lefty relatives. This might give them an advantage in remembering events from the past.
Skunky beer is really skunky. Chemists at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill have discovered that the photodegradation of beer in clear glass bottles releases compounds called "skunky thiols" that closely resemble the compounds in skunk glands.
And, let us all send positive thoughts to the Mars orbiter, which should be making it's first pass at the red planet's atmosphere sometime today. Maybe this time it will work.
