Back to the future, here we come!

For those of you interested in the development of the hydrogen fuel cell for powering our automobiles, this story might be quite relevant. Researchers at the University of Wisconsin have developed a process that converts a glucose solution derived from plant tissues into hydrogen. They hope that future work could elicit a process that utilizes plant wastes like wood pulp and corn husks instead of the purified glucose solution to create the needed hydrogen. Research into new processes of creating hydrogen cheaply and easily could eventually decrease our reliance on fossil fuels. Hydrogen is a particularly good candidate as a fuel source because when it burns the only waste product is water... which isn't really a waste. Who knows, if these guys have their way, someday soon we might be feeding our cars with last nights leftovers. Read more about the process at Nature News Update.
