What We're Talkin' About
Oil conservation has gone nuts! Literally. Researchers at the United Arab Emirates University in Al-Ain and Helwan University in Cairo successfully tested a fuel mixture for diesel engines that contained Jojoba oil. The Jojoba fuel buned cleaner, and more efficiently than diesel. The engines that ran on the nut fuel even seemed to run more quietly than when deisel was used. This offers some amount of hope for those countries whose economies are dependant upon the steadily dwindling supply of petroleum. In fact, cultivation of the Jojoba plant is on the rise. Farmers hope to sell the nut oil to fuel producers. At present, quantity is the only issue holding Jojoba oil back from becoming a global alternative fuel source. The infrastructure is not yet in place to grow enough Jojoba nuts to meet demand. Read more
