They Want To Drink Your Blood!

Today's guest, Dr. Bill Schutt, is an expert in the area of sanguivores. (If you don't know what that means, just take a listen to the show.) As a hint, just take a look at your calendar... it soon will be Halloween, a holiday filled with all the things we find creepy. He gave us all sorts of insight into the truth and myths of these special creatures. You can learn more by reading his book, Dark Banquet...

If you like reading science-y books in general, head on over to the TWIS Bookclub to share books with others. We're getting ready to start a new book for the month of November!

We themed up for Halloween with many stories about brains (thank you Society for Neuroscience for your timely conference!) and other creepy things. Scientists are reporting multiple ways to renew sight in the blind. Robots are getting whiskers for the sense of touch. UC Davis researchers have discovered another chemical that makes us smell yummy to mosquitoes. We have neurons for harmony... musically that is. Nerve regeneration looks to be on its way. The bees might be making a comeback from CCD. The best dinosaur ever was a transformer. And, butterflies hear multiple frequencies with the ears in their wings. They might be listening to you right now.

Music on the show was by Unbalanced Wheel, They Might Be Giants, Melodysheep, and The Gifted Apes.

    Listen to it all here.

Hey! Justin wrote a book. It's called 'Ome'.
