How come it’s not possible to read this? What about your deaf users that read at 300x the speed of video captions (which are often wrong). What is the point of this site anyway, is this a pop-sci site for teenagers?
We have not had the income to provide a text version of the show. It is quite costly to transcribe our program since it is usually at least an hour in length, if not longer. However, as we increase our audience size, and our donor support, one of the things we aim to do is provide people with a transcript. First and foremost, we are an audio program, so not well situated to provide of the hearing-impaired. I would love to provide for everyone, but it’s hard to do when you are barely providing for yourself.
Some of our TWIS shorts do have scripts, so your idea is great. I should definitely provide them with the videos on our site. Thank you for suggesting something I hadn’t yet put together!
As for what we are all about, we are here for teenagers, for adults, for anyone interested in science, but not necessarily scientists themselves. So, I guess we are pop-sci in the way that we approach talking about science. We do have scientists in our audience, but we try to branch out to get more people interested in being curious about the world around them.
I tried running a TWIS subs wiki for a while, no interest.
This is a tech site. So. Use it. There are commercially available software out there that will do speech to text fairly easy. Even if the software is not 100% that is where your editors and publishing staff watch the show. Then fill in the gaps.
The editor/publisher is Dr. Kiki. It’s a Science show, not tech site. There are not enough funds out there for us to have a speech to text, and no interest from the fans to do any transcription work. If you want to provide the software I’m sure we can get something going, otherwise, we have what we have.
That’s a bad ass scarf Kiki…
Nice play game style. I wish i can try it 🙂
love the science, not so much the “showmanship.” Find I have to take breaks for a couple weeks and listen to shows that don’t try to be cute or witty and just share the science. sorry to be a curmudgeon but thought you might want to know – or maybe not.
Fair enough, but is there a reason you chose to post under this particular video short instead of a current episode?
