   16:40 … the galaxies stopped growing …

   They have not quite stopped growing, and you just said they grew by 30%…
   Now, the headline uses the incorrect phrase “stopped growing”, so I understand the confusion.
   Personally, I never trust headlines, and in the rare case I do, I trust that they are mistaken.
   What the paper actually demonstrates is that merging is not so important in the recent evolution of this one type of galaxy (BCGs).
   In fact, the size evolution of these BCGs look more like typical radio galaxies.
   On the other hand, this study was performed on a sample of only 5 galaxies, so the statistical significance is questionable.
   In any case, I’d like to know more about the model predicting a 3x size increase, but couldn’t find more information.
