The future is coming,
According to some sources,
it is already here.

Science has gained unparalleled knowledge,
Research has found breakthrough applications,
And technology has already been set in motion,
To make significant changes to the lives of humans.

Change is coming,
And the world as it stands,
is currently operating under an obsolete model.

We are eating wrong, thinking wrong, drinking the wrong water, and breathing the wrong air, and are still reliant on fossil fuels despite knowing the damage it is causing.

We are still on a money system that incentivizes accumulation over application, is used as an excuse for the unethical treatment of humans, and allows life-saving research to languish.

Because – insert money’d interest reason here – while we do tax cuts…

Under-educating and under-investing in the next generation while raising the retirement age around the world just as work is becoming the most automated it has ever been.

But like I said,
Change is coming,
And you’ll see it first here on
This Week in Science!

Published in 1859 “On the Origin of Species”, Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution is one of the most important scientific theories ever proposed.
It changed how we understand the natural world and our place in it as every explanation that proceeded it was wrong.

Not just a little wrong either, not fuzzy on the details or mistaking correlation for causation wrong but critically, fundamentally, irreconcilably wrong in every way.

Before Darwin species were thought to be generated, like NPC’s in a simulation created by a divine being remaining unchanged throughout time.

Understanding evolution is foundational to the understanding of biology providing a framework for understanding the diversity of life on Earth, how organisms are related to each other, and how they change over time and adapt to their environments.

Evolution is key to understanding how ecosystems function, how they are affected by human activities, and how that affects humans.

It underpins everything in genetics as genetic variation arises through evolution passed down from generation to generation.
And is essential for studying the genetic basis of diseases and traits.
Which informs disease risk and the invention of cures.

It is also critical in understanding human history the deep evolutionary history of how humans evolved over time.
How they are related to each other and animals, plants, and bacteria too.

Microbiology is, at its core, a study of evolution. Gained traits, lost traits, and adaptive responses to changing environments.

So it was extremely disheartening to hear that in one of the most populated countries on Earth, India, evolution is being removed from textbooks.

Hopefully, this trend will be reversed, because otherwise, a tremendous portion of earthlings will grow up without being interested in

You can have doctors without science,
You can have medicine without science,
You can have doctors who, without science, recommend medicine unsupported by science,
They just need to be clear, that what they do is not related to science.

What cannot be allowed, is doctors who generate fake science.

Which is what we have now in the case of the Florida Surgeon General,
Who altered the findings of a 2022 Covid-19 vaccine study,
From the mRNA vaccine poses no significant risks to young men.
To suggesting mRNA vaccinations increase risks in young men.

This same individual also was the author on a separate research paper back in 2020,
In that paper, the authors advocated for a treatment method of hydroxychloroquine.

That research was led by Doctor Zelenko who went on to sell anti covid supplements
Before dying of covid at the ripe old age of 49.

Some other doctors on that paper:

At least one wound up with a position at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A nonpracticing cardiologist became a guest on the Joe Rogan show promoting covid conspiracy theories.

Another doctor listed as an author went on to invent his own treatment, using asthma medication and claiming it had a 100% success rate.

Yet another Doctor became a guest of the Alex Jones Shows and had a list of prominent Americans he said he would like to kill.

And still, another is a practicing cardiologist, somehow still tweeting vaccine misinformation.

And many members of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, a political organization that believes doctors should be autonomous in treating their patients — with less government oversight, medical quality standards, insurance coverage limits, and no legal penalties when they make mistakes.

Some of the members appeared on FOX “News” suggesting people should not wear masks during the pandemic to accelerate herd immunity

And on and on for 57 incredibly unscientific doctors listed as authors, who have and likely still do treat real patients each seemingly to had a motive beyond research for being part of the study.

And each wanted to call their ideas science.

I draw the line at science.

Go be bad doctors if that’s your calling.
But don’t call it science

And don’t publish that trash if you don’t want it seen here on This Week In science!

The following program is a glimpse into the world of science

A world that is all around us, inside and out
Across every form of life
Every interaction of chemistry
And every force in nature

From the beginning of time
To the cold, dark, meaningless end of the universe

From complex systems
To simple solutions

From a child’s questioning mind
To lifetimes of researchers in pursuit of answers
And always, no matter how much we have learned
We find there is much more still to know

The world of science is a big world
Spanning every known subject
And leading us ever into subjects unknown

The world of science is a deeply fascinating place
In every direction
mystery and adventure await
The hardest part is choosing where to start

This is why each week we offer a few suggestions here on

There is a constant effort underway to understand everything.
Not everyone knows this.
Not everyone cares.

Most humans do not question the world around them
They wake up, go to work, come home,
Eat a quick meal, yell at the television, and go to bed

Human reality tends toward fantasy
Identity wrapped up in tribes, teams, and the products they use

People get angry at products they identify with
if the products are inclusive to other tribes
Infringing on their identity, their fantasy, their personal brand

Such a sad and pathetic existence
The brand managers and ad copywriters should be proud
Their work is having a lasting impact

There is another world taking place
Where people are using their minds to unlock every mystery
To observe and record every detail
To understand every interaction in a complex and intricate reality

A world where the brain is not branded by logos
Where the mind is free to see and explore
To think, question, and explore
A world where we gather together to talk
about all the interesting things we have discovered

AI is changing everything.
Well, maybe not everything yet.
But it’s just getting started.

And already there are questions…
The academic world is struggling to keep up
With students who may be brilliant
But write like a robot.
Or students who skipped the required reading
Yet turned in a perfectly astute essay.
If a teacher uses an AI detector to determine a real from generated paper
Are they the ones cheating?
If AI is used for grading papers, is that cheating?
AI is a powerful research tool, and that is not cheating
If your research paper is entirely AI-generated, that seems like cheating.
But what if you guided the AI in some way.
Does it still count if its finding are validated?
What if they are not?
AI recently predicted several hundred million protein folds
based off of single sequences
But how accurate are they?
If they are close enough to accurate is it science?
How close?
If they are not close is it still science?
A car drives off a cliff or runs over a pedestrian.
Was it driver error?
Was the driver even the driver?
Does that even matter for assigning fault?
Are deep-fakes fraud or free speech?
Is AI based stock trading a tool, or is it cheating the system?
As AI based trading becomes increasingly popular and automated,
