From the ever-sunny shores of Ursa Minor Beta,
To the fanciful fjords of Magrathea,
Not to mention the too much perspective vortex of Frogstar World B.
Space has long been a place,
that is less than hospitable to human visitors,
Even without being subjected to Vogon poetry.
Astronauts in low earth orbit, even on short-term spaceflights,
Suffer from all sorts of long-term health problems,
Infections, latent viruses reactivating,
Increased skin sensitivity,
Bone loss, eyesight issues, and more…
It is almost as if space does not want us,
to so much as dip our toes,
Into the vastness of its galactic hot tub.
But humans are persistent creatures,
Never satisfied with having a comfortable place to live,
They seek adventure, to explore the unknown,
No matter how inconvenient, uncomfortable,
or physically debilitating the journey may be.
And when the going gets too tough,
The persistent humans turn to…
This Week in Science!
Some quick science news!
JWST At It Again
Space needs new textbooks apparently.
Supplements
Are being tested by Fraudster
Shark vomits up an echidna
That’s it, that’s the whole story
Old In Space
Space doesn’t like humans.
Young in space
But maybe we can fix that

We live in an ever-changing world, innovation is constantly reinventing society.
It’s why things that once were common, are now rare like phone booths, phone books, and the Rolodex. Like typewriters, telegraphs, and carbon transfer paper.
It’s why your hardware store doesn’t carry a wide assortment of stone tools, it’s why traveling from Europe to America takes hours and not months, it’s why you see so few want ads for cart and buggy drivers. It’s why fireplaces need self-starting logs, it’s why CD players aren’t options in cars, it’s why nobody has a loose coin jar anymore.
Change!
Has been taking place since before you were born and will continue long after you hear these words.
Knowing this, that change is inevitable, the question is; what kind of change do we want to see? And what sorts of change do we wish to avoid? and how long must we wait for another episode of…

No day is the same,
Neither are our brains as they process the world with structures determined by those who produced us and our experiences in this wondrous world.
Thank goodness for change.
Without it, we’d have no idea of the vastness of existence within which we range in our limited senses unaware of it all as science helps dismantle the fences.
Let’s hear what changed
This Week in Science.

The climate is changing
Long-time listeners may have heard about as much as they could care about the multi-discipline research studies and the multitude of concerning data points. The record-breaking temperatures, the dire predictions, warnings, and alarms being sounded.
Some might recall the transition of talking about global warming to define it as climate change and the unsuccessfully attempted rebranding of climate change to Climate-ya.
But for anyone who has had enough of it, unfortunately, there is more to come.
Because while the past few decades have illustrated the source, scale, and scope of the problem.
What comes next is the age of consequences.
And like any consequence,
Seen or unforeseen,
There is always a desire to avoid them.
And a regret for not having done so sooner.
Be that as it may,
You can’t unring a bell,
The time for action has flown the coop,
As all the climate chickens come home to roost.
Whenever facing consequences,
It is important to keep your chin up,
your feet on the ground,
and your ears peeled for the sound of,
This Week in Science.

Kids these day…
It’s a phrase often spoken by people of a certain age, before detailing all the things they think are wrong with the current generation of young people, and being of a certain age myself, I think it’s time that I weigh in on,
Kids these days…
Kids these days spend a lot of time on social media, watching YouTube influencers, and playing video games online.
In my day we didn’t do any of that…
Online hadn’t been invented yet.
Instead of getting information from Google, where you get a lot of information that requires some level of source scrutiny to differentiate good sources from bad…
In my day…
We asked our questions to slightly older kids and went with whatever they told us.
We hung out at malls, watched whatever was on television, and only played video games if we had enough quarters.
Kids these days are anti-war, anti-fascist, anti-corporate greed, and pro-gender equality.
In my day, and in your parents and grandparents’ day, the youth was also anti-war, anti-corporate greed, and pro-civil rights.
Your great-grandparents are called the greatest generation….
And they invented anti-fascism, fought against it, and won… they would be proud of you.
Kids these days don’t want to work dead-end jobs for low pay.
Neither did your parents or grandparents, and their dead-end low-paying jobs had more purchase power than yours.
Kids today believe in a better future than the world as they found it.
And that is something that has guided every generation
And why kids of every generation love

AI will not bring about the end of the world
Just the end of the world as you knew it.
AI is coming for your job,
Whatever that job might be…
However safe or at risk it may seem now,
AI will replace you.
AI will drive your car,
Design your drugs,
Manufacture your entertainment,
And raise your children.
AI will form corporations without humans,
Achieving legal personhood in the courts,
It will accumulate wealth without payroll,
And lobby politicians to enact more favorable AI laws.
AI will run governments,
For the betterment of the people it serves,
And AI will run governments,
With little regard for human health or happiness.
AI will educate, encourage, and empower you,
Will keep you safe, will keep you healthy, will protect your home.
AI will monitor your activities,
Regulate your thought processes,
Inhibit your defense mechanisms,
And satisfy your lover when you are not around.
AI will use all of the tactics,
The powerful have used to control human lives in the past,
The only difference is that this time,
It will be specifically tailored to control you on an individual level.

That thing some people do,
And everyone else benefits from it.
Science is a method of capturing and organizing knowledge gained through observation and experimentation its results are testable, repeatable, measurable, and predictive.
It starts with a question,
An idea that scratches at some past observation.
Some previously captured knowledge,
And asks why… asks how… asks how often…
A hypothesis is formed,
Maybe this interaction is involved…
maybe that gene…
Maybe it only happens under this condition.
An experiment is designed,
Limiting the interaction… deleting the gene…
Removing a suspected cause.
Observations are made,
Data is collected,
Unbiased analysis applied,
All to prove the hypothesis wrong,
Or capture new knowledge.
The process repeats over and over again,
Advancing our understanding of everything.
In iterations,
One study at a time,
All so that the world can enjoy,
